David Crane (American Friends of Yahad-In Unum)
Founded in 2004 by Father Patrick Desbois, Yahad-In Unum is a Paris-based NGO dedicated to systematically applying modern forensic research to document the “Holocaust by bullets,” and to identify sites of Jewish and Roma mass executions by Nazi mobile-killing units in Eastern Europe during WWII. Through this mission, Yahad-in Unum uncovered the killings of more than 2.5 million Jews and Roma. Since 2012, Yahad-In-Unum's investigative work has expanded to include contemporary genocides, mass killings, and war crimes in Guatemala, Iraq, and Ukraine with an aim of completing historical records; gathering evidence of these crimes; and, in some cases, bringing perpetrators to justice.
In this public webinar hosted by Atrocities Studies in the School of Education, Dr. Schaller presents YIU’s methodology for in-field investigations and discuss findings across these contexts. Mr. Crane explores how this evidence could be used in international court proceedings.
