Can a musician exist without an audience? For years, maestros waited in hope for her to accept them as disciples. George Harrison of the Beatles sought special permission just to hear her practice. Yet, in the mid-1950s, Annapurna Devi made a profound decision: to stop performing altogether. It was a sacrifice made to protect her marriage to the world-famous sitarist Ravi Shankar, who had grown uneasy with the growing acclaim she was receiving.
Television, Radio and Film, Art & Music Histories, Code^Shift and the South Asia Center welcome award-winning filmmaker Nirmal Chander Dandriyal to campus for a screening of her documentary about Devi: 6-A Akash Ganga.
