Two Evenings with Filmmaker Jean-Pierre Bekolo
Jean-Pierre Bekolo (Yaounde '66)
Vlad Dima hosts Bekolo, an avant-garde filmmaker and socio-cultural activist whose imaginative work overturns stereotypes of Africa and African cinema. His entertaining films operate on multiple layers, engaging viewers with thrilling stories, biting humor and dramatic aesthetics. An advocate of artistic freedom, Bekolo is committed to realizing Africa’s philosophies and cultures.
Bekolo's film We Black People will be screened, described as "a fake ethnography film centering on the discovery, cultural identity, and history of Colombia’s Black people." Q&A to follow. A second Bekolo film will be screened and discussed on April 23.
