Pixy Liao (Brooklyn, NY)

Artist Pixy Liao presents a Zoom webinar describing her work in photography, video, sculpture and music. Liao is interested in what happens when a man and woman flip the power and sex roles set by a traditional heterosexual relationship. This question resides at the center of Liao’s work.

Biography:

Born and raised in Shanghai, China, artist Pixy Liao now lives in Brooklyn, NY, and has participated in exhibitions and performances internationally, including Fotografiska (New York), Rencontres d’Arles (Arles, France), Asia Society (Houston), National Gallery of Australia (Sydney), the Museum of Sex (New York). She is the recipient of the NYFA Fellowship in photography, Santo Foundation Individual Artist Award, Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival Madame Figaro Women Photographers Award, En Foco’s New Works Fellowship, and LensCulture Exposure Award. She has done artist residencies at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Center for Photography at Woodstock, University of Arts London, School of Visual Arts, Pioneer Work and Camera Club of New York. Liao participated in the Light Work Residency program in 2015. She holds an MFA in photography from the University of Memphis. She is represented by Chambers Fine Art in New York, NY.
