Creative Ecosystems: Helen Frankenthaler and Her Circle

In a keynote lecture celebrating the SU Art Museum's fall exhibition, “What If I Did This?”: Helen Frankenthaler in the 20th-Century Print Ecosystem, Alexander Nemerov (Stanford University) explores how personal and professional -- and sometimes messy or ambiguous -- relationships between artists and critics are a key element of the creative ecosystems of the visual arts, specifically, in the art ecosystem of New York in mid-later 20th century. A reception follows the lecture.
