Deadline: 2024 Book Proposal Shortcut with Laura Portwood-Stacer

Time: Jan. 26, 2024, 8 a.m. - noon

Location: Online

DEADLINE EXTENDED: January 26, 2024

The Office of Research and Syracuse University Humanities Center invite scholars from any discipline with book projects in the pipeline to submit a request for support to enroll in the Book Proposal Shortcut led by Laura Portwood-Stacer of Manuscript Works, author of The Book Proposal Book.

About The Book Proposal Shortcut

If you’re hoping to pitch your book to a scholarly publisher next year, Laura Portwood-Stacer's structured curriculum helps you stay on track as you identify target presses, draft your book proposal, and make a submission plan. This is a self-paced course designed so that you work independently and at your own pace.

Shortcut enrollees will be invited to periodic live zoomed Q&As held by Portwood-Stacer a few times per year. [The live Q&As for 2024 are tentatively scheduled for March 1, May 3, August 2, and November 1 at 10am Pacific Time / 1pm Eastern, recorded for delayed viewing, as needed.]

Accepted registrants get access to instructional modules that walk you step by step through drafting your book proposal and ensuring it meets — even exceeds — the expectations of scholarly publishers. The modules are available in written, audio, and video formats, and accompanying worksheets will help you organize your information as you prepare your written draft. The material takes a very similar approach to The Book Proposal Book, but it’s organized to get you right to work and making progress on your proposal as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Notifications will go out by end of January, 2024, with sufficient time for you to enroll in the course before the first live Q&A tentatively scheduled for March 1.
