More about the artists:

The Narratio Fellowship connects artists to cohorts of youth fellows in Syracuse to explore and represent the full range of their experiences through storytelling. This year’s fellowship cohort is comprised of alumni from the previous 5 years of the program.

In addition to composing new poetry through our regular collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum Art, this year’s cohort participated in a series of performances and workshops with Narratio Artist in Residence, Ameen Mokdad. Mokdad is a violinist and composer, who received international recognition for composing and performing music in Mosul when the region was under ISIS control.

Mokdad is now in Connecticut and performs with Cuatro Puntos, a nonprofit that works to amplify the work of under-represented composers. Mokdad and Cuatro Puntos have been collaborating with Ekklesia Ballet Company and its artistic director Elisa Schroth. Schroth and Mokdad attended the Narratio Fellowship poetry performance at the Met in 2023 and began composing and choreographing original work inspired by Fellows’ poems.
