Love in Syracuse: Making Art Together

Time: Feb. 25, 2023, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Location: Community Room, Salt City Market

Narratio Fellows, students, and faculty mentors from the Engaged Humanities Network join Watson Professor, Rina Banerjee, to collaborate on the pieces of a public art installation, to involve hair braiding -- with personal artifacts -- by community and university participants.

Rooted in cultural memory and storytelling, this co-created project asks: Does love play a role in creating art? How does love contribute towards identity-formation and place-making? Does it shape or resist gendered and racialized identities? By coming together around these questions, we hope to create community engagement between and across diverse communities; foster a shared understanding of the diasporic experience in the City of Syracuse and arrive at a common sense of humanity that binds us all together.

Results of this collaboration will be officially revealed in March at the Nancy Cantor Warehouse.

While this activity is open to the public, space is limited. Please register by 2/18/23 and include any dietary and accessibility accommodation requests.
