Monumental Concerns Symposium (Day 2)
Time: Oct. 7, 2023, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Location: Watson Theater
Strategic Initiatives, Academic Affairs hosts a two day symposium on monuments. How do we dialogue about these often-controversial markers and address a multitude of perspectives? To what extent do we invite opposition to discussions of monument removal or displacement? How do we acknowledge the emotional role that monuments play while advocating for more inclusive historical framing?
Through thoughtful and respectful dialogue from an array of presenters, participants can begin to define what a monument is in 21st-century America and imagine what monuments could be for the future.
