Dr. Boylorn's work is steeped in the humanities tradition showcasing innovative methods that bridge critical auto-ethnographer and cultural studies. She explores a timely topic, Black Womanhood, developing a lens for looking at both the personal and the cultural with a focus on identity politics. She has coined some important terms -- "ratchet respectability," "blackgirl" and "blackgirlism"-- to open up possibilities for theorizing Black womanhood.
